About Ashford University

Ashford University started teaching students in the small town of Clinton, Iowa in 1891 by the Sisters of St. Francis. It was known as Mount St. Clare Academy, a boarding school for girls. The school changed to a liberal arts institution in 1918. Ashford College began offering distance learning in 2002. Ashford College is currently run by a for-profit Higher Education organization and is no longer sponsored by the Sisters of St. Francis.
